Teen charged with $9.6M Madhia businessman robbery remanded

NATOLAN Martin, of Lot ‘WW’ 7 North East La Penitence, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on a $9.6M robbery under arms charge. He was accused, before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, of having, on January 10, at Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, also in Georgetown, being armed with a gun, robbed Madhia businessman Roger Hinds of a quantity of gold jewellery and two firearms, all to that value.
Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail, based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and that Martin was positively identified as one of two persons who committed the crime.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, whose bail application was refused, was informed that the 17-year-old prisoner had been in front of her previously charged with a similar offence and was also sent on remand.
The magistrate said Martin cannot be at the Camp Street Prison at age 17 and ordered that his birth certificate be produced at his next appearance on February 3.
Thompson said the previous case was dismissed and Martin was never fingered on an identification parade and police had reported that several persons attacked the virtual complainant but only one was arrested and charged.
