SOL proud of past performance, achievements here

… departing General Manager Figaro
SOL Guyana Inc hosted a Customer Appreciation Day last Saturday and the General Manager, Mr. Ken Figaro said it was a high point on the company’s calendar of events, to reflect on the year’s performance and say thanks for the patronage.

The function was held in the Savannah Suite of the Pegasus Hotel, in Kingston, Georgetown and, among those in attendance were Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Mr. Robert Persaud.
Figaro said the company is proud of its performance and achievements over the past seven years, following the purchase of Shell’s assets in 2005 and Esso’s in 2007.
“Looking back at 2011, we were able to complete the modernisation of our retail service stations network. Our refurbished sites at Regent Street and Mc Doom and our reconstructed state-of-the-art flagship at Bel Air Park have been very favourably accepted by the public at large.
“In November last, we relaunched our high quality fuel V-Power with FMT – Friction Modification Technology, which actively cleans your engine and reduces friction, helping to deliver more power throughout the life of your car.
“In spite of our performance, we have been faced with many challenges….increased fuel prices, refinery accidents and labour disputes, causing unavailability of fuel or delays at loading ports, illegal fuel imports, and the silting up of the Demerara River, which has caused us to incur tremendous expenses as a result of dead freight by our supply vessels. At our very own berth, we were forced to pay in excess of US$200,000 to our dredge facilities.

“On the brighter side, we are excited about some of the drilling and mining projects currently taking place and those expected to soon come on stream,” Figaro said.
As part of SOL’s Road Safety Launch, a cheque was presented to the Alicea Foundation – Mothers in Black, to help that organisation with its road safety work.
Figaro also announced that, on March 1, he will be taking up a new position at SOL’s Head Office in Barbados, as Regional Manager with responsibility for Guyana, Haiti, and Belize.
His successor will be Mr. Ivan Hanley, who previously held the position of Country Manager for St. Kitts and Nevis.
