THE prosecution closed its case yesterday in the rape & robbery trial against Steve Providence.
The evidence conducted by prosecutors, Konyo Sandiford and Diana Kaulesar disclosed that the young  woman was going home on the night in question when she was taken to the Triumph Burial Ground, East Coast, Demerara, and was raped and robbed of jewellery.
In his unsworn statement from the dock, the accused, who conducted his own defence, did not say anything about the girl, but blamed the police for putting him in trouble.
It was a case in which the police had done their work by taking both the accused and the girl to the doctor for examination.
A medical examination report disclosed that the victim was criminally assaulted.
