…as GT&T hosts concert to say, ‘Thank you, Lord’
THE Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Limited (GT&T) will tonight stage its mega gospel concert featuring internationally acclaimed gospel singer Donnie McClurkin at the Guyana National Stadium.
Mc Clurkin was the highlight of a press conference at GT&T head office yesterday, when media operatives and staff of the telephone company, among others, met the singer and took photographs with him.
The popular gospel singer was accompanied by Assemblies of God minister Selwyn Sills, and Chief Executive Officer of GT&T, Yoganand Mahadeo. Mc Clurkin thanked GT&T for the initiative as he explained how this occasion was the first to bring him to Guyana. He said all his musicians are ready to perform.
Mc Clurkin said the sole objective of the show tonight is not to entertain, but to ‘hold hands and worship God.’ Commenting on his time in the country so far, he said the weather is beautiful and the people have been nice and kind. He expressed his love for the multiple cultures in Guyana.
Mahadeo said it was a privilege and extreme pleasure to have the singer visit Guyana, under the aegis of GT&T. The last year has been a phenomenal one for the company, the CEO said, and hence it was thought that to ‘best top it off,’ would be to say “Thank You, Lord.”
Mahadeo said this night would be one of prayer, inspiration, and communion, and will be one for Guyanese to come together and hold hands, while thanking God for the past year.
Because the event will now be held at the stadium at Providence, Mahadeo said there would be no problems with seating and he thanked the government and all others assisting with this event.
GT&T Projects Manager, Nicola Duggan described the event as a religious one and hence announced that no alcohol will be allowed. Strictly no weapons will be allowed either.
Duggan said the officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) will be out in their numbers and space for parking would be available on the tarmac. She disclosed, too, that a few tickets are left at Ashmins and the company’s business offices.
Stage front tickets are being sold at $3000, while regular tickets for adults are $1500 and $800 for children between the ages of 10 to 15.
The curtain on the concert goes up at 20:00hrs.
