BUSINESSWOMAN Chandrawattie Ali of Parika, East Bank Essequibo was last Tuesday evening robbed of $380,000 in cash and a cheque valued at $3.8M. At around 21:30hrs on Tuesday, the businesswoman was allegedly about to open her gate to enter her yard when a man grabbed the haversack she was carrying and fled the scene in waiting car PNN 659.
Residents in the area and ranks from the Guyana Police Force promptly responded, managing to trace the getaway vehicle and arresting the bandit.
Positively identified by the woman as the bag snatcher, he was subsequently searched, and the sum of $184,000 was found in his possession. The police have him in custody whilst they continue searching for two other suspects, along with the missing sum of money.
