In Berbice…

Police detain schoolboy, minibus conductor in separate rape investigations
A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD secondary school student and a minibus conductor are in police custody, assisting with separate investigations of rape committed on minors at West Coast Berbice locations.
The teen is alleged to have raped an 11-year-old girl last November, when she was left with a younger sibling to play in their parents’ yard.
It is reported that the rapist requested a drink of water and, when the victim went into the kitchen to get it, the suspect forced her into a bedroom and had sexual intercourse with her.
Subsequently, when questioned by her parents, the minor admitted that she was sexually assaulted and it was confirmed after she was examined at Fort Wellington Public Hospital.
Meanwhile, the bus conductor, 31, allegedly, had penetrative sex with a secondary school student, who was missing from home for a day.
The 15-year-old had left the residence of her grandmother to uplift a dictionary and school based assignments (SBAs). However, she joined a minibus, together with her assailant, who took her to his home where they had sexual intercourse.
They were later seen at a chicken fast food outlet before returning to where the conductor lives and repeated the sex acts.
Her parents were informed of her whereabouts and, on finding the girl, took her to Fort Wellington Police Station and Public Hospital, respectively.
