SHERWIN Monger (no address given) was remanded to prison, by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a robbery charge. He pleaded not guilty to having, on December 18, 2011, being together with another, robbed Riaz Ali of a gold chain valued at $600,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was standing on a roadway when the defendant approached him from behind and grabbed his pants while the other person took away Ali’s chain and both men made good their escape.
The prosecutor, who successfully objected to bail for the defendant, on the ground that he has previous cases in court, said Ali knows Monger and made a report, based on which the latter was arrested.
The defendant has to be back in court tomorrow.
