Stalled murder trials to resume Monday
THE two murder trials stalled after at the opening of the January criminal sessions of the Demerara Assizes, because two of the three accused were unrepresented by counsel, will not be ready to resume before next Monday.
The case of  Peter Ray Kassim alias ‘Donkey’ and Satnanand Sahadeo called ‘Boyso’, which could not go on, was adjourned after the latter was assigned counsel by the State.
Mr. George Thomas, who was given the assignment, requested time to study the depositions and was granted a postponement, to Monday, by Justice Franklyn Holder.
Before Justice Dawn Gregory, however, the jurors to try Devaun Paul, also indicted for murder, were told to return Monday; too, as certain preliminary discussions have to be undertaken before the trial could start.
In those proceedings, State Counsel, Konyo Sandiford and Diana Kaulesar are prosecuting while colleagues Judith Gildharie-Mursalin and Renita Singh, from the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as well, are the prosecutors in front of Justice Holder.
Defence counsel, Hukumchand is appearing for Kassim.
