WICB President meets with President Ramotar

PRESIDENT of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Dr. Julian Hunte, last evening,  paid a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar at Office of the President which was followed by a meeting. Joining the meeting were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony; Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall; Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) Clive Lloyd; Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira; and Director-General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Elisabeth Harper.
On Friday, President Ramotar had requested a meeting with CARICOM and other officials to address the issue of Guyanese players not being allowed to play in the regional T/20 tournament slated for Antigua on January 9.
Following a teleconference at the Guyana International Conference Centre, the WICB decided to allow the Guyanese team to play.
At that event the President was accompanied by Ministers Anthony and Nandlall; CARICOM Secretary General Dr. Irwin LaRocque; Chairman of the recently formed Interim Management Committee (IMC) Clive Lloyd and Deputy Secretary General, CARICOM Lolita Applewhaite.
Antiguan Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer chaired the session, and was accompanied by CARICOM’s Chairman and President of Suriname Desi Bouterse and Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stewart.
Dr Hunte, who was invited to participate during the course of the teleconferencing, indicated his willingness to bring an agreeable closure to the local cricket situation and agreed to visit Guyana for a meeting with Guyanese officials to iron out some of the discrepancies that emanated since the establishment of the IMC.
