Grieving families losing hope
–pleading for answers to the mystery
LOCAL authorities have assured family members of the three seamen who went missing with their ship, MV “Oliver L”, since December 21st, that even while there is no new development, both the investigation and the search for the three men still continue. Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle on Monday evening, Kamaldai Shuckoo, wife of Ramdat Roopnarine, said that in an effort to be apprised of any development, she contacted the Maritime Administrative Department (MARAD) of the Public Works Ministry, and officials there explained to her that while they are still carrying out a search, there has been no word on the whereabouts of the three.
Shuckoo, along with Sherry Hartman and Jewel Lewis, told this newspaper during separate interviews that not one night passes without them shedding tears and grieving for the safe return of their husbands.
While the women and families remain hopeful for the safe return of their loved ones, they have said that with each passing day, hope for their loved ones’ survival becomes dimmer.
Ramdat Roopnarine, Claude Burnette and Wexton Andrews, sailors for several years, had left their families on December 11 to pursue business in Trinidad and Tobago; and after spending some ten days there, were expected to return home for the holidays.
Until now, investigators have not been able to come up with any explanation for the disappearance of the three, along with their ship, the MV Oliver L; neither is there any new development in the mystery.
The families are once again pleading with the authorities to make a further effort, in collaboration with the Trinidadian officials, to bring some clarity to the issue.
