A 26-year-old Linden man late Thursday remained in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday, suffering severe cutlass wounds inflicted by a man who is now in hiding. The victim, Rondell Hollingsworth, of 39 Victory Valley, Linden, who works as a gold miner in the hinterland, was home for the Christmas holidays and spent New Year’s Day with friends at the Five Corner Beer Garden, at Linden, where he got into an argument with a man at the drinking spot.Hollingsworth said that the argument was eventually quelled and the drinking spree continued. However, around 04:30hrs, when he least expected it, a man who was apparently a friend of the other with whom he had the argument, appeared on the scene armed with a cutlass and began chopping him brutally. The suspect is said to be of Amerindian descent.
Ms. Oslene Miller, mother of the injured man said that it was the man with whom her son had the argument, who summoned the ambulance and helped get him to the Mackenzie Hospital, where he was rushed to the theatre for emergency treatment and later transferred to the GPHC.
His wounds required 60 stitches.
