ANDREW Morris was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for unlawfully assaulting his wife when he pleaded guilty to the offence before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on December 30. Particulars of the charge stated that, on December 27, he unlawfully assaulted Abigail Morris so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question, the defendant and virtual complainant, husband and wife, had a misunderstanding that resulted in the defendant taking a piece of wood and dealing the virtual complainant several lashes about her body, causing her injuries.
The defendant told the court that he and his wife had a misunderstanding, and she called him names. Morris said he became annoyed and told his wife not to disrespect him like that, but she continued, and he lashed her with the wood.
