Jailed for cuffing reputed wife

MAGISTRATE Hazel Octive-Hamilton sentenced Orvin Cole (no address given) to three months imprisonment, last Thursday, on conviction for assaulting his reputed wife, Ayanna Bryan, to cause her actual bodily harm. In another domestic violence case, he pleaded guilty to the offence, admitting that he cuffed the woman in her face on December 20.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said the couple was reputed husband and wife and the defendant went to the home of the virtual complainant, demanding to see his child.
The prosecutor said the defendant was holding the child who began to cry and, as Bryan ventured to see why the child was crying, the defendant asked the virtual complainant for money his aunt had left for him and, when she turned away, he dealt her several cuffs to her face.
The prisoner told the court he had gone to Bryan’s home to collect her and his child because the environment in which she is living  is not nice.
He claimed the virtual complainant was pulling a bag and his hand accidentally hit her in the face.
However, when the magistrate called the woman into the well of the court, she observed a black and blue mark around the virtual complainant’s left eye.
