NDIA to clear drains at Golden Grove

THE Ministry of Agriculture’s National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has responded to flooding at Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara. Investigation has revealed that the water level was approximately four to six inches.
This was due to the drainage system being heavily vegetated and the land being low compared to the surrounding areas. Arrangements were being made to clean the drains yesterday, and the particular resident that was mostly affected was advised to raise his land.
The ministry will continue to support farmers countrywide and is urging all local government bodies, inclusive of the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs), Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), all agricultural producers associations and other local democratic organs to be vigilant during the rainy periods, as well as to provide necessary feedback to the ministry.
Residents and farmers are urged to contact the ministry at hotline number 226-1565 if they have drainage issues that require urgent attention.
