LAST Monday, teams from the riverine villages of Pomeroon attended an elaborate presentation ceremony at the Zenon Hotel Restaurant and Bar in Anna Regina, to observe the culmination of the Pomeroon Cricket Committee/Anand Sanasie cricket competition. The Rising Sun Cricket Club received a beautiful trophy and cash for winning the two-month-long competition, while Pomeroon Oil Mills copped the second prize with Friendship Super Kings and Devonshire Castle Cricket Club placing third and fourth respectively.
All four teams received trophies and monetary rewards for their outstanding performances in the competition. Ronald Kanhai, who scored 279 runs in the competition, received the Best Batsman award and Jeremy Demattos the Best Wicketkeeper and the Man-of-the-Match award.
The Best Bowler of the tournament was Arthur Melville while the Man-of-the-Series award went to Jeffrey Henry. All the players received monetary rewards for their impressive performances throughout the competition.
The presentation ceremony was attended by officers of Region 2 and officials of the Guyana, Essequibo and Pomeroon cricketing bodies.
Pooran Persaud, a member of the Regional Administration Office, thanked Sanasie, the Honorary Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, for sponsoring the competition and expressed his gratitude for the gesture.
He also stated that the tournament helped tremendously in community development and interaction while Sanasie said he was amazed at the interest shown and promised to continue sponsoring the tournament on a yearly basis.
