PPP/C condemns attacks on homes of Officials

– describes incidents as ‘violent acts of terrorism’
THE People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) said it is perturbed by the recent acts of attempted arson committed on the homes of leading party and government officials.
The latest attack was the discovery of a Molotov cocktail (channa-bomb) yesterday morning in the yard of PPP/C stalwart, Ms. Philomena Sahoye-Shury who resides at Sheriff and Canje Streets, Section ‘K’ Campbellville.
This follows a similar attack on the home of PPP/C government official, Mr. Odinga Lumumba on Monday last. Yesterday’s incident is the third such attack on Ms. Shury for this year with the first being in January. The PPP/C, in a statement, said it vehemently condemn these violent acts of terrorism perpetrated on its members.
Such acts at this juncture, taking into consideration past experiences, can be deemed as attempts to undermine the peace and unity Guyanese have demonstrated over the years and which were more profound following the recently concluded General and Regional elections, the PPP/C said. It added that these incidents which serve to instill fear are counter-productive to the democratic gains of this nation.
The PPP/C said it is also concerned that these attacks, which have targeted the homes of its members and by extension their families, may be carefully orchestrated to intimidate.
The PPP/C is adamant that such efforts will not succeed as they failed in the past. The party also calls on the olice to remain vigilant in their investigations of uncovering any sinister plot and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
