Case of juvenile postponed to await parents attendance

A JUVENILE, who had previous brushes with the law, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on Wednesday, on two charges of simple larceny and break and enter. The defendant, who was without parental support in the New Amsterdam Court, told the magistrate that his mother has expressed disgust at his behaviour and refused to accompany him.
However, the magistrate instructed the police rank who instituted the charges to ensure that the boy’s parents attend on December 12.
The 16-year-old pleaded not guilty to stealing an Ipod valued $60,000, property of Nafeeza Hack but he admitted that, on November 11, he broke into a beer garden at Winkle Road, also in New Amsterdam and stole beers, mobile phone cards, cigarettes, pastries, fried chicken and juice, all to a total value of $24,048, property of Sherwin Forde.
Police Inspector, Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, was about to present the facts of the burglary case when the magistrate advised him to await the attendance of the teen’s parents.
