Beaten Diwali night robbery victim for CT scan
FIFTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD Mohabir Sugrim, of Lot 246 Blygezight, Campbellville, Georgetown, who was severely beaten by three men after they broke into his house while he was home alone, is expected to have a CT (computerised tomography) scan to determine the extent of his head injuries. The man’s daughter, Rhonda King, said she will take him for the examination shortly, on the advice of a doctor, because his condition has not greatly improved.
She said Sugrim is in pain, overwhelmed by bouts of headaches and, although he is walking around, is still very shaken by the break and enter and robbery on October 25.
That night he was subjected to a severe beating in the head and about the body by a group of men, after he had returned home from viewing the Diwali Motorcade and was watching television about 23:00 hrs.
The robbers barged in after forcing open a wooden door at one side of the two-storey concrete building.
It was the second burglary committed on the household this year, after March 4, when bandits also stormed the place and took away some money.
King said, this time, the intruders used a nipper, a crescent and whatever they found in the house to duct-tape and beat her father, who is very traumatised by the ordeal.
She reported that the bandits took their time with the pensioner and severely beat him in the head and about his body, demanding jewels and cash.
King told the Guyana Chronicle the burglars also carted off a video camera, a cellular phone, money and jewellery.
She has a suspicion that the home, where her brother also lives, is being targeted since her mother passed away months ago.
Meanwhile, the police said, yesterday, that, although the investigation is still active, they have not yet made any arrests.
Still in pain….
