BCGI wants immediate published apology from Kaieteur News

IT is with bitter regret that the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI) has learnt about the publication, on the day of general & regional elections, by Kaieteur News (page 3) of an article entitled, ‘Unlawful to prevent employees from voting today’.
In accordance with its policy of goodwill, the company beforehand rented and paid 8 buses to ensure a comfortable and timely transportation of our employees from Aroaima to vote in Georgetown, New Amsterdam, other parts of Berbice, Linden and elsewhere.
On the evening of November 27th, the first group of 64 of our Guyanese colleagues had successfully left the BCGI compound to execute their civic duty at their appropriate polling stations.
Moreover, today (yesterday), at 6:00 am and 8:00 am, another five buses left Aroaima for Linden, carrying more than 70 employees to vote. After exercising their franchise, they will be conveniently transported back to Aroaima from 7.00 pm.
Buses are also programmed to transport our first group of colleagues registered out of Linden, on December the 29th from 1.00 pm.
These employees will be paid in accordance with current labour legislation.
A simple telephone call from Kaieteur News to the company could have satisfied the writer’s concern, rather than an unsubstantiated and false publication.
Being cognisant of the situation, the company would accept an immediate published apology from Kaieteur News. This would contribute to the steadfast ethics of good journalism.
