PERFUMES salesman Zahir Mohamed Abdul (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with fraudulent conversion. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, details of which said, last April 15, he fraudulently converted, to his own use and benefit, a quantity of the confectionery solely entrusted to him by Parran Piaralall.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said the defendant is known to the virtual complainant and would, usually, take some of the merchandise from him on credit and return within a day to pay.
The prosecutor said, in this case, Abdul took a quantity, saying he had received an order from Bartica and would return with the money in four days.
However, he failed to show and several attempts, by the virtual complainant, to contact Abdul were to no avail until, recently, when he saw the defendant, made a report and caused him to be arrested, the court heard.
Abdul was put on $250,000 bail until December 5.
