GECOM bus blamed for Monday night accident

CRIME Chief Seelall Persaud disclosed yesterday that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) minibus PJJ 9158 was to blame for the Monday night accident in Georgetown. He said the vehicle, which was transporting ballot boxes, elections materials, officials, ranks and others from Brickdam Police Station, jumped the major road at King and Robb Streets and collided with a car.
The impact caused the bus to turn turtle, injuring several persons who were inside the bus and they were treated for minor injuries.
Persaud added that police in a car were escorting the ballot boxes to GECOM’s office in Kingston when the mishap occurred and it is being investigated.
The collision took place at about 19:00 hrs and police provided security while representatives of several political parties were on hand until the ballot boxes and other elections materials were secured and placed in another vehicle and taken to the intended  destination, he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate occurrence on Pouderoyen Public Road, West Bank
Demerara, on Monday night, a car ended up in a trench after it crashed with a bus.
Police said no one was injured but both vehicles were extensively damaged.
