Direct flights between Toronto, Guyana are desperately needed

I read this with happiness and joy but with a sense of sadness too.
Construction is set to begin shortly on the US$50.9M Marriott Hotel, which is expected to transform the hotel and hospitality sector and enhance the image of Guyana.
President Jagdeo noted that, with all of the growth and expansion unfolding in the country, a huge demand is being placed on the accommodation and entertainment sectors.
He said: “Guyana has grown tremendously; we have gone from a $300M economy to a $ 2.5B economy, we are one of the fastest growing economies in this region, in fact, this country has had continued growth throughout the global recession. There is a growing demand for travel to Guyana.

What caught my attention most is the “growing demand for travel to Guyana”.
I know of many Guyanese who are longing to come home from Canada but refuse to go through the hassle and harassment of being treated with scorn and like a criminal when in-transit in Trinidad.
Last year I too vowed not to return to Guyana because of what Guyanese must endure at the dirty hands of officials in Trinidad but I love fair play and came home in October this year.
Well, I not only saw fair play but felt fair play while in Trinidad this year 2011 and I said to myself no more fair play for me.After going through three security checks before boarding the aircraft for Toronto I felt like a dirty criminal.
I even asked the stewardess if she wanted me to undress before sitting in my assigned seat on their aircraft. Many Guyanese on that flight were asking the same questions after what Trinidadians had done them at their airport.
Once again, a desperate, direct appeal is being made to the Government of Guyana  to get its own national air carrier or sign up with others to have direct flights to and from Toronto Canada.
Why must a six-hour flight turn out to be about a 14-hour flight or more and for Guyanese only to be treated as common or deadly criminals while in Trinidad?
