We have defended and supported our security forces

…Donald Ramotar
– –highlights the PPP/C’s track record at Bath Rally
THE security forces will today cast their votes in the general and regional elections, and People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Presidential Candidate,
Donald Ramotar, is maintaining that the incumbent party has always defended and supported the security forces, stressing, in the same breath, that the criminals who have worked to cripple Guyana were supported by the Opposition.
He was addressing thousands gathered for the PPP/C’s rally at Bath, West Coast Berbice, last evening, where he pointed to the fact that the infamous Lindon London, known as Blackie, was given a funeral where the opposition covered his casket with the Guyana flag – an attempt to make him into a hero.
“The PNC (People’s National Congress) tried to make a murderer, a rapist, a bandit, into a hero,” Ramotar said.
He added that during the crime spree, when bandits invaded Buxton, taking the community hostage, raping the community’s women and committing other crimes against the people of Buxton, the Opposition was quiet.
“The PNC said not a word because they defended and supported the criminals,” he said.

PPP/C RECORD
The PPP/C Presidential Candidate called on voters to examine the party’s track record as they go into the polls.
“When you vote, vote for continuity,” he stressed.
Ramotar noted that in the security sector, not only has the PPP/C committed material resources, but more importantly, has committed to rebuilding capacity in the sector.
He promised that a PPP/C government in the next term will ensure that the sector sees improved training, more technology at the disposal of officers, and additional tools to fight crime, among other planned advances for the sector.
He said, “We are already reforming the judiciary, an important part of the law enforcement apparatus.”
According to him, security forces will also retire with a life skill so that they can continue to make a prosperous life for themselves and, by extension, contribute to national prosperity.

SHAME
Ramotar observed that the PNC has changed its name to A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) because of the shame associated with the failures of the PNC.
“They have failed in security,” he said, “They could not come to you as PNC.”
He stated that, in another key sector, education, the Opposition had also failed massively.
He pointed out that when Dr. Cheddi Jagan proposed the construction of a university, the Opposition was opposed to it and they have succeeded in only running the sector down.
According to Ramotar, over 1,000 schools have been built, including schools with dormitories in the hinterland regions; more than 80 per cent of students from primary school are now enrolled in secondary school.
Having already achieved universal primary education, Ramotar pledged the attainment of universal secondary education, as the sector consistently sees advances under the PPP/C.
“Education is vital for national development,” Ramotar said.
He added that above the sectoral advances, is the building of national unity, an undertaking the PPP/C has advanced for the last 19 years.
Ramotar explained that a PPP/C government, led by him, will be ready to propel Guyana forward and maximise on the country’s potential, as it is well poised, adding that such an administration would welcome those with constructive contributions to national development.
“The PPP/C was founded on the principle of building one Guyana consciousness,” Ramotar stressed.
