GCB/Carib Beer/Pepsi T20 …

Rain prevents any play
… New Amsterdam Tigers claw West Berbice Super Kings
EARLY morning and persistent rain prevented any play in the Guyana Cricket Board-organised Carib Beer/Pepsi-sponsored Twenty20 Smash yesterday, while in the previous day’s action, New Amsterdam/Canje Tigers clawed West Berbice Super Kings by four wickets.
Yesterday’s action would have seen Nauth’s Motor Spares East Coast Jaguars take on Carib Foods East Bank Pirates at the Wales Community Centre ground from 09:00hrs, followed by North Essequibo Warriors  versus Hotel Tower West Demerara Cavaliers fixture at 13:30hrs.
In Georgetown, the GCB XI were set to face the Gizmos and Gadgets Pitbulls at 09:00hrs followed by their 1330hrs clash against Noble House Seafoods Young Conquerors, with both matches fixed for the Georgetown Cricket Club ground.
A small but appreciative working day crowd, along with Chairman of the Senior Selection Panel Rayon Griffith and GCB’s Cricket Operations Officer Robin Singh, witnessed the West Berbice Super Kings go up against New Amsterdam/Canje Tigers in an exciting and enthralling encounter on Tuesday at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
Thanks to Romesh Boodram’s 52 along with Brandon Bess and skipper Krisendat Ramoo’s unbeaten 15, West Berbice Super Kings reached 130 for 6 from their 20 overs, with Devon Clements taking 2 for 30 for New Amsterdam/Canje Tigers.
Giving themselves 17 overs to get the required runs to win the game, the visiting team got a solid start of 71 from six overs from their openers Richard Ramdeen and Joemal La Fleur, with the former taking 18 runs off the first over bowled by Bess.
Ramdeen made 45 while La Fleur offered support with 28, but in their haste to get the runs quickly, New Amsterdam/Canje lost wickets regularly and cheaply to the bowling of Eon Abel who took 3 for 19 from his four overs.
They did reach 133 for 6 from 16.5 overs, but lost out on a place in the Super Eight which bowls off on Saturday at the Skeldon Community Centre ground to West Berbice Super Kings, who had a better net run rate which enabled them to join Corentyne Titans.
