– One suspect shot
POLICE reported that, at about 14:15 hrs yesterday, two ranks responded quickly to a report of break and enter on the two-storey Block ‘Y’, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara home of Dinesh Singh, Sales Manager of Trans Pacific Auto Sales. The ranks saw three men exiting the premises. One rank held on to one of the men, while the other two perpetrators ran in different directions.
The other rank gave chase behind another of the men, and was attacked with an iron claw-bar, forcing him to resort to the use of force, and the man was shot to his right hip.
The injured suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Sean Brewster of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown. He has been admitted a patient under guard at the GPHC. His condition is stable.
The third perpetrator managed to escape.
The perpetrators are reported to have broken into a safe and carried away $400,000 and a quantity of jewellery. Investigations are in progress.
Meanwhile, neighbours yesterday told the Guyana Chronicle that this is the second such robbery to befall Singh, and the man is simply frustrated and traumatised, since the bandits had spent a lot of time in the house, ransacking his things and taking away those most valuable.
The robbers gained entry to the building using a ladder from a nearby yard. They entered the building through an unsecured window at the top flat, broke into the safe, carted off some expensive Johnny Walker liquor in all flavours, and even spent time consuming some while robbing the place.
The robbery took place sometime after lunch yesterday in broad daylight, while the owner was at work. Neighbours summoned the police when the men were spotted.
The bandits parked their getaway car 10 houses away from the building they robbed.
Singh suffered a similar robbery last year August.
