– at public meetings, rallies
THE People’s Progressive Party (PPP/C) is overwhelmed by the massive response and participation from supporters all across Guyana during its run up to Elections Day, come November 28.
According to PPP/C Executive Member, Robert Persaud, this is indicative of much enthusiasm and interest in the message and the issues addressed on the party’s platform, during the campaign and public meetings.
He said, “It is certainly indicative of the fact that there is great momentum as we edge closer to E- day (Election Day), it’s reassuring for the campaign.”
Persaud made these observations at a media briefing, yesterday, at the PPP/C headquarters, Robb Street.
He noted too that over the past few weeks, the PPP/C has successfully staged a number of campaign rallies and public meetings, which have attracted the support of thousands.
“Last weekend was a hectic and successful weekend; we had the rally at Anna Regina where thousands attended despite the scorching heat, it reaffirmed Essequibo’s support for the PPP, and it also attracted hundreds from the Pomeroon and other communities from Region 2,” he explained.
This was immediately followed by the “mammoth” rally at Stewartville, Region three (Essequibo Islands/ West Demerara) which saw close to 40,000 attending to show their support for the party.
The PPP/C campaign will continue today, when members will head to Port Kaituma for a grand public meeting, which Persaud pointed out will complement some of the other public meetings across the country, which amounts to close to 80 per day.
This weekend, residents of Bath, in Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) will be given yet another opportunity to demonstrate their support as the PPP will be visiting that community.
Persaud announced that, come next week, the final week for campaigning before the 2011 general and regional elections, a massive PPP/C rally will be staged.
He said, “The PPP/C will end with a PPP concert and rally at the National Stadium on the 26th; this will again give Guyanese the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to national unity, to reaffirm their support for the PPP/C, as we seek to continue the progress and the transformation in the country.”
Election Preparation
Meanwhile, Persaud highlighted that the party is in the process of finalising its elections day plan, in terms of ensuring that polling stations are properly manned.
“We have representatives at all polling stations, also the necessary support to ensure that persons are allowed in a very free and open manner to cast their ballots. The rallies and the public meetings and what we do before are very important, but at the end of the day, it is persons going out there and casting their vote is why we put a lot of emphasis in this regard,” he said.
