Defendant crashed car in escape after robbery
TRAVIS Peterson (no address given) was refused bail yesterday on a charge of robbery under arms. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that, on November 5, being armed with a gun, he robbed Natasha Mahase of one gold chain and gold band with a total value of $430,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was at the Square of the Revolution with a male companion when the defendant and another person approached the couple in a white car with registration number PKK592.
The Prosecutor said the defendant disembarked the car, pointed a gun at the couple, took away the jewels and escaped in the car but was chased by the virtual complainant’s companion.
During the chase, the defendant lost control of the vehicle he was driving and ran off the road, then came out of the car and fired shots at the person who was in pursuit, the court was told.
The prosecutor said the defendant was later apprehended and identified as the perpetrator.
Peterson was remanded to prison until November 17.
