PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CM)C – Chairman of the national selection panel Dudnath Ramkessoon said there was no excuse for the way the nation side performed in the Final of the Regional Super50 last Saturday in Guyana.
Trinidad & Tobago were dismissed for a modest 118 in 46.1 overs and Jamaica went on to clinch the Clive Trophy Trophy with a five-wicket victory at the Guyana National Stadium.
Ramkessoon admitted that T&T missed several top batsmen for one reasons or another, but the replacement players in the team had to start delivering.
“We should have gotten a minimum of 150 to 170 on that pitch, and we would have had a chance,” he said.
“The batting however, continues to be a concern for us and it is something that we must look at carefully.”
He added: “We were missing several players but it is time that the bench deliver. Their approach to the game was not good and they have to start producing for us.
“If you look at Jason Mohammed, he was excellent. He approached the game with a lot of common sense and batted to suit the occasion. I think that the rest of the players should have learnt something from him, as he was in control of his game.”
Mohammed finished the tournament with the highest number of runs, scoring 227 at an average of 56.75, to earn the Richie Richardson award and was also voted the Most Valuable Player, winning the
Ramkessoon reserved special praise for off-spinner Sunil Narine. He finished with the most wickets in the tournament of 15 at 11.86 runs apiece to take the Curtly Ambrose Trophy.
“Sunil really bowled well again for us and I must say congratulations to him,” said Ramkessoon.
“He definitely has a bright future ahead of him and he would want to continue his good work and take his game forward.”
