Guyana’s U-20 Lady Jags ready to roar

… take on Antigua & Barbuda on November 2.
GUYANA will be hosting Group D of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying competition, which kicks off on Wednesday, November 2 at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground,
Bourda. The countries battling for the top spot will be Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, The Dominican Republic and host nation Guyana. Technical Director of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Women’s Programme Mark Rodrigues, has called a number of players (overseas and local) to the squad. The camp is expected to commence this weekend.
The Lady Jags will take on Antigua & Barbuda on November 2 in their first game with the opening encounter of the Group featuring The Dominican Republic and Anguilla from 13:00hrs, next Wednesday.
Competition will continue on November 4 and end on the 6th all at the GCC ground, Bourda.
Team Guyana’s games will also be streamed live on the internet via the Guyana Sports Development website, http://www.guyssportsdevelopment.com. Tickets for the games can be purchased at the gates and will cost $500 with children under 12 free.
In an invited comment, TD Rodrigues said he is confident that the Under-20 Lady Jags will continue the success of the Senior team (Gold Cup Finalists 2010) and the Under-17 team which won the first round of qualifying a few months ago and have qualified for round two which will feature Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bahamas to be played mid-November.
According to Rodrigues, the U-20 Lady Jags are not entered to compete, they are here to win and get to the U-20 World Cup finals in 2012.
Toronto based Lady Jags supporter EXCLUSSIF Spices showed their continued support donating another G$250 000 to the programme, bringing the company’s total donation since 2009 to approximately G$1M.. Company President Eric Rodrigues and his spouse even flew to  Cancun, Mexico  in 2010 to support the senior ladies at the Gold Cup. Programme Director Colin Baker
is calling on the general public, private companies and the government to provide support for the Lady Jags.
“We are finally seeing great sacrifices paying off with Guyana’s football, both male and female.
The Golden Jaguars are on the verge of qualification for the next round of the FIFA 2014 World Cup, while the female Under-20 and Under-17 teams are expected to do much better than last year when the Senior Lady Jags made it to the CONCACAF finals.
We are now seeing an interest in Guyana’s football worldwide and so we have to put the necessary things in place in order to be successful when we get to the next level.”
