THE first ever Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) organized Universal DVD and Universal Solutions sponsored first division T20 cricket competition, gets underway today with first and second round matches fixed for both today and tomorrow respectively.
The competition will have the current 10 first division clubs in the Ancient County divided up into two groups involved viz: Group A – Albion Community Centre, Edinburgh, Memorex Bermine, Port Mourant Karibee Rice and Blairmont Community Centre and Group B – Rose Hall town Gizmos and Gadgets, Young Warriors, Police “B” Division, Skeldon Community Centre and West Berbice.
The innovation of certain venues having two matches on the same day, with the home clubs hosting both, has been introduced for the first time at the club level to make the competition more attractive to the cricket loving public in Berbice.
For today’s game, Edinburgh and Young Warriors of Cumberland will play both of their matches on their home ground, while for tomorrow, Albion Community Centre and Skeldon Community Centre will have the honors, with the morning matches scheduled to start at 09:00hrs while those in the afternoon are billed for 13:30hrs.
The competition will be played according to International T20 rules, including players coloured clothing, white balls and the one-over-per-side eliminator in the event of a tie, with the two top teams advancing to the semi-finals. The finals is being tentatively set for Sunday November 13, at a venue to be identified.
Today’s action reads: Group A at 09:00hrs, Edinburgh and Memorex Bermine will clash, while Edinburgh will oppose Albion Community Centre in their second match from 13:30hrs, and at Port Mourant the home team Port Mourant Karibee Rice will take on Blairmont from 09:00hrs.
Group B action will see Young Warriors taking on Police ‘B’ Division and Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets from 09:00hrs and 13:30hrs respectively, at the Cumberland ground.
For tomorrow, Albion Community Centre will take on Port Mourant Karibee Rice and Memorex Bermine in their two Group ‘A’ matches, while in Group ‘B’, Skeldon Community Centre will host Police ‘B’ Division and Young Warriors at Skeldon while Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets host West Berbice at Area ‘H’ from 13:30hrs.
