Teenager imprisoned for jewel larceny

ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, sentenced Jason De Nobrega (no address given) to 18 months imprisonment for larceny from the person.
The convict, 18, pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that, on October 13, he stole one gold cricket band, valued $240,000, from Vincent Ali.

Prosecuting, police sergeant Lionel Harvey said the virtual complainant was at a construction site walking through an alleyway when the thief and two other men approached him and took away the jewel.
The prosecutor said Ali raised an alarm and public-spirited citizens assisted in apprehending DeNobrega but his accomplices escaped.
The prisoner, who begged the court for mercy, admitted that he was in the company but declared he had no idea the other men were going to rob Ali.
