Diwali Ustav ushers in Festival of Lights

HUNDREDS of persons converged on the National Stadium last evening to celebrate the first ever, Diwali Utsav organized by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. The event featured top singers and musicians, including Indar Kanhai and his sister Nandanie Kanhai, with Andy Singh and the Trisul Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago, all performing in a programme with Guyanese top singers Mohan Nandu, Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha Singh and Suchitra Rampersaud.
Entertaining and vibrant dances were also performed by the Dharmic Nritya Sangh.

The parking lot was transformed into a cultural arena, as the patrons were treated to a variety of activities, including rangoli-making (coloured rice decorations). The venue also provided the ultimate shopping venue for Diwali items, Indian clothing, jewellery and mehendi designs.
Participants were also tempted to try the hot, tasty and delicious seven curry, samosas, pholourie, potato balls, sweets and other delicacies.

In addition to Diwali Utsav, the Dharmic Sabha will be holding countrywide motorcades beginning October 22nd.
On October 25th, the biggest motorcade will be held at the LBI Community Centre Ground, East Coast Demerara, where some $3M in prizes will be up for grabs in the large, small and commercial categories.
Diwali will be celebrated on October 26th.
