AFTER an exciting start last weekend in Linden, the Mackeson Smooth Moves 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament now heads to Burnham Basketball Court in Georgetown today from 16:00 hrs, where the city ‘Ballers’ will have a chance at chasing the $1M first prize.

The event which was launched last Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court, couldn’t have asked for a better start, as the Linden teams set the tone for the tournament when Victory Valley Royals and ‘Ghetto’ became the first two teams to advance to the next round of the most lucrative basketball tournament ever held in Guyana.

Today Group 1 of the Georgetown leg will be played with six teams in the cluster, playing a ’round-robin’ format where the top three teams will advance.

In  fact, according to the organizers, Georgetown will have four groups with each having six teams.

Some of games’ top names and teams have all entered in the city, thinking they have what it takes to make it all the way.

Group-1 is being called “the group of death” having some of the best players Georgetown Basketball has to offer.

The teams in the group are: Pacesetters (Clement Brusche, Hugh Arthur, Shawn Gillis and Mark Richards), Bank of Guyana (A) (Ryan Stephney, Shawn Austin, Ciprehen Alexander and Gregory Garrett) along with Bounty Colts (A) (Gavin Beram, Kelvin Simon, Dane Kendall and Jermaine Lovell).

Riders (Sean Millington, Lennox Samuels, Delon Beckles and Sheldon McKenzie), Slash (Jason Squires, Aubrey Austin, Questo Smith and Horace Hodge) and Knights (Kester Gomes, Jason Cort, Randy Aaron and Owan Walton) will all make up the teams who will be on show today.

The tournament have already seen the exit of one of the ‘big name teams’ that had registered as Kings Way, that had the likes of four senior National players (Marvin Hartman, Jason Alonzo, Omally Sampson and Neil Marks), and their exodus showed that having a good team on paper is one thing, but being hungry is another.

Meanwhile, the tournament will head back to Linden on Wednesday October 12, where teams from Kwakwani and Ituni are expected to be part of the extravaganza.

Also, on the same day, the Albouystown Basketball Court will be the hub of activities for more action when ‘Group-2’ of the Georgetown Zone will be played.

On Friday October 14,is back to the MSC Hard Court for Group ‘C’ then the following day (October 15), Georgetown will see more action at the Burnham court.

Teams from the Berbice and Bartica zones will have their first taste of the tournament on Sunday October 16, and games will also be played on the West Coast of Demerara at the Den Amstel Basketball Court on October 22.

The ‘Round of 16’ is slated for Linden on November 5, with the quarter-finals on November 9, and Semi-Finals and Finals on November 12, at the Burnham Basketball Court
