IT is sickening, tiring, very very annoying, and even extremely boring to see daily in the Kaieteur News, some nasty articles about some contractual work that was overcharged for, or not worth the money. They are stuck to the Corriverton NIS Branch, as if addicted to that project, and they go on and on as if nothing else happens in Guyana , printing mostly vulgar attacks on the Government of the day, trying to make the National Procurement Board look ridiculous, ridiculing the engineers, and criticizing Cabinet. It seems Glenn Lall, and his Chief Editor have serious problems with the Government of the day, and this newspaper, and Prime News, they wish to dictate how the Government should operate, selling newspapers, and making money.
The tendering procedures were created by the IMF and World Bank. During the days when contracts were negotiated, one could have tried to get the best in negotiations, but that also had its flaws as contractors could corrupt officials in negotiations. Yet the Kaieteur News behaves as if the construction and other contracts are handed out to party loyalists, and Government favourites, so that some people could make big money. There is a process, a procedure that has to be fulfilled. I suggest that Glenn Lall, get one of his clerks to tender for him, as he may not be able with the paperwork.
Nonetheless, tendering for a contract, or all he has to ensure he has the facilities, the experience, and compliances, and just tender. As he could do things so cheaply he could make much more money than he did with his former lucrative business after coming out of the bag shoe sale. Even Freddie Boy can do the same, as he always complains how poor he is, he could now get rich. Form a company, get the equipment, the experience, the name, and go into business, Adam could see the big bucks rolling, maybe the three of them together, and they could build small structures for lots of money. They could build small and large roads and highways, even open and compete in the security industry.
Back to the NIS building; Glen Lall and Adam have been on it for so long that it loses its effect, if any. Compare the NIS buildings to the ones showed in the newspapers as to value and costs. Look at the quality, the painting, the mere presentation, much like chalk and cheese. Further, the contractor has to make a profit, and he has to clear wear and tear for his vehicles, his equipment, he has to pay taxes and NIS for his employees. Do you think of such things or calculate Glenn? I can understand Freddie not being a businessman, but you are. When one builds a home it is not a business to make a profit, and some would be extremely stringent especially if they do not have too much money Glenn. Then there is a kind of foundation, tiling, stairs etc. Glenn Lall complains that a septic tank costs $400,000.00. With profit for the builders that seems right, if painted and presentable. If they use pressure pipes the price will increase and cast solid. Right now I am building a septic tank, it will cost over $250,000, with pressure pipes it will be more. Then there is the profit factor Glenn, businessman.
Look at the quality of the fencing, which alone would cost millions, equipped with razor wire and all, and remember labour is very expensive. Yes, that generator foundation, and fence, the shed, look at the quality. Definitely the property may not be $66m., Sir Glenn, but a part, maybe 15-20% has to be for profit. Do you do advertisements without a profit? Do you sell shoes without a profit?
For those smuggling people into other countries, definitely there has to be big profits too, for those who did that and maybe are still doing it. Trafficking in persons is a serious international crime, yet people risk it, why? It has to be profitable Glenn! No one does business without it. The contractor also has to buy milk for his family, and live the standard for his investment, as you do Glenn!
The latest is the airport washroom. Do you know cost of construction labour? Do you know the cost of transporting items from Georgetown ? Who pays for the Clerks to source the items, etc etc etc. Then the work must not only be done, but pleasing to the eye. Glenn Lall and Adam Harris and Freddie should consider tendering for toilets and latrines.
A newspaper must report, yes, but be responsible and report truth, not try to fabricate nor embarrass contractors. I remember, when a political boy used Kaieteur News to embarrass me when I won a security tender, after he had submitted a fake GRA compliance. He was so annoyed, and even though he has a super big business, he never advertises, especially in Prime News and Kaieteur, but Kaieteur News and Prime News did their utmost to embarrass us, a lawful entity, and fulfilling all legal obligations. All that political boy’s court cases were thrown out. Kaieteur News never offered us an apology nor ever published the facts. That is Glenn Lall’s prejudice. But I did not file court action because I already have one on Kaieteur News.
This newspaper needs to mature. He who has no education needs to stop allowing those who are educated and know techniques of psychology and sociology to manipulate and use him, for their personal vendetta and hate.
Remember, contracts are awarded according to Tender Board Procedures, remember that. Imagine what the media would do if contracts are negotiated for. Instead of annoyance, it is my hope that Glenn Lall ponders this letter overnight and think well.
KAIETEUR NEWS SEEMS USELESS OTHERWISE.
