National football team to regroup this weekend to prepare for Inter-Guiana Games

UNDER the guidance of former national player Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite, Guyana’s male football team for this year’s Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) will resume training this weekend at the Carifesta Sports Complex.
Twenty-one players will be encamped from tomorrow when they will begin fine-tuning their formations and skills for the 44th hosting of the event which will be held in Paramaribo, the capital of the Dutch-speaking country of Suriname.

Since the resuscitation of the Games in 2006, Guyana have always been finishing second behind Suriname, only getting the best of French Guiana in most situations of the tri-nation game.
Braithwaite, since he was appointed coach of the team, had expressed his desire of returning Guyana atop of the discipline which they once dominated.
Director of Sport Neil Kumar had said that “all systems are in place for Guyana’s participation” at the event and said that this year will be special.
Meanwhile, Gary Mickle was appointed as Braithwaite‘s assistant, while Edward Cort has been named team manager.
The 21 players called for training this weekend are: Eon Alleyne (captain), Jovano Dos Santos, Devon Charles, Alex Murray, Joshua Brown, Trenton Lashley, Mark Walton, Keifer Adams, Dellon Wilburg, Ron Lyken, Daniel Wilson, Jahall Greaves, Julian Joseph, Seon Semple, Jermaine Junor, Devon James, Randolph Wagner, Clarence Huggins, Pernell Schultz, Korwyn Benjamin and King Archer.
