Kaieteur News persistently seeks to discredit officialdom

I WISH to draw attention to the fact that despite the retraction, apology and strong words of condemnation used by the Kaieteur News (KN) in its Tuesday September 20 edition in response to a letter written by Alliance for Change (AFC) executive member, Sasenarine Singh, this newspaper has not seen it fit to remove the said letter from its online edition.

I have provided evidence of this (see attached) and I wish to proffer two possible explanations for this faux pas.

1.  It was another one of the many mistakes being made by the newspaper

2.      Fearing yet another lawsuit, KN was forced to offer an apology and retraction of what they themselves described as the “unsubstantiated” and “libellous” letter written by Singh. This doesn’t mean that they don’t agree with the contents of Singh’s letter. In fact, in the retraction article, KN said some of the statements contained in the letter “smacked of rank politicking designed to discredit officialdom”; who is guiltier of doing this than KN? So with the knowledge that they cannot be subjected to court action for the posting of the said letter on their online edition, KN has caused the letter to remain there.
In my view, the second explanation seems plausible, given that the actions of KN are demonstrative of a media house which persistently seeks to “discredit officialdom”.
