NEWLY-accredited Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana Mr David Devine on Friday paid a courtesy call on Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud at his Regent and Vlissengen Roads Office. Their discussions were centered on cooperation between the two countries in areas such as forestry, agriculture development and aquaculture.
The High Commissioner noted that the ongoing courtesy call on Government Ministers, since his ascension to the post will serve as a method of identifying ways in which the two countries can expand cooperation.
“It has been a useful and productive discussion thus far, as we move to have the two countries further strengthen their ties,” he said.
Minister Persaud said that while Guyana and Canada have shared rich and healthy relations over the years, the countries will be looking to further strengthen ties.
“We look to Canada especially for support as we move in various areas of our economy for its expertise and support and for us to look at areas where we can have meaningful cooperation, particularly looking at investment,” he said.
He said Canada remains an important partner as the countries’ economies continue on a process of transformation.
Guyana and Canada have over the years shared fruitful relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966.
