Bring back the old stalwarts

COMRADE Donald Ramotar, who is the Presidential Candidate of the PPP/Civic is the second General Secretary of the party elected and the hope and future of the Guyanese nation. This party has suffered from too many “lost years” of good stalwarts; our development has been put on hold for  much too long within the party.
With this renewed mandate by Comrade Donald Ramoutar with the Skeldon sugar factory management I sense that this will be used to advance his cause of co-operation between the sugar workers and GAWU. Already he has announced his intention to launch and implement changes as never before: to address immediately the concerns, fears and insecurities of party members to correct mistakes and penalise wrongdoers appropriately, even if found within his own ranks of corruption and to seek the wildest consensus possible to change the Cabinet to Parliament, State Boards and Members of Parliament to wider civil society.
I believe firmly that Comrade Ramotar’s new-look administration must include old party stalwarts to prove his promises and be faithful to Dr Cheddi Jagan’s party. I feel too he should seize with the urgency that the crucial issues of transparency, even-handed and all -embracing democratic development and good, efficient governance demand. These vital national issues can only be attended in an environment of peace, respect for law and order and the recognition of the role and procedures of our national institutions.
Finally, we must avoid any division in our own camp. Dr Cheddi Jagan’s party must become non-negotiable, Comrade Donald must stop the selling off of our assets which were built up by generations of Guyanese labour, and he should expand them and create more jobs.
