ANOTHER professional, Dr. Shellon Mc Allister recently became the newest addition to the team of medical professionals associated with the Linden Fund USA rendering service free of cost to nearly 60 children. The LFU Secretary, Ms. Linda Felix-Johnson was able to convince McAllister to be part of the ongoing medical outreach.
The management accepted her offer and, in conjunction with Benjie’s Pharmacy, the youth arm of the LFU/Women of Mission International, she joined to pool their financial, human and other forms of resources, to ensure the success of the one-day clinic.
Last September 2, a paediatric session was conducted at the Charles Rosa School of Nursing.
The following day, McAllister delivered a lecture to nursing students at Mackenzie Hospital and said it was very enlightening.
She was also conducted on a tour of the new hospital and was excited about it.
“I didn’t even know there was a new hospital and I might be able to provide some resources and certainly, I actually, will be kind of coming back,” Mc Allister mused.
She said she has a sister, who is a registered nurse and, in fact, is a clinical instructor at the University in Tennessee and expressed some interest in returning to do some skills training with the nurses, hopefully, before the end of the year.
“Between now and then, now that I know she is coming back, when I get back home I am going to try to work with her and, maybe in conjunction with the staffing here, find out what the needs are so we can together find out those we can meet,” McAllister said.
McAllister is a general paediatrician, who received her undergraduate education at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and then went on to the University of South Florida, where she received her medical degree.
She, subsequently, did her residency training in General Paediatrics at the University of Florida/Shands and Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
After completing her residency, she moved to Nashville, where she worked in a small private entity as an associate professor with Vanderbilt University Children’s Hospital, in Nashville, Tennessee.
