Politicians need to show evidence of nature of racial problems

POLITICIANS, especially from the opposition parties, are blatantly presenting extreme unreliable, inaccurate, unsupported information on race relations in Guyana. It is pointless for these persons to make charges without evidence, credible studies and reports, and so far, there have not been any evidentiary materials to show the degree of racial tension or racial division in Guyana. Why are they poisoning peoples’ minds with the idea that Africans are against Indians, and vice versa? Are they forgetting that Guyana is a multicultural and plural society and that Guyanese are not irrational? They need votes not only from the Africans or Indians, but also from the Chinese, Amerindians, and mixed groups.
No one is denying that there may be some race issues among Guyanese. But, where is the evidence to show that race relations are an extreme issue in Guyana? There have been issues with race relations in the past, most of which were due to some politicians’ selfishness to divide us by telling us we are not united so that, they can be president or win elections. These politicians are making Guyanese seem as unintelligent beings and that we cannot independently determine facts from fiction. I hope they are not trying to repeat the past!
As Guyanese, we have to be responsible and proud to represent our national unity and counteract those who seek to say or do the opposite. Is that the opposition’s best argument?  How long are we going to tolerate these politicians using race and ethnic relations to target a voting audience? We need concrete evidence on medium and long-term development policies in which these politicians should dedicate their time and efforts to create, rather than  stir up non-evidentiary positions just to get votes.
These politicians are a bore, as one pursues their greed, as they try to get the taste of presidency. They are talking national unity, and the politicians themselves are like grumpy old men fighting against each other. They need to be attentive on the real issues that basically allow Guyana to move forward. It is becoming overbearing to hear these politicians talk about race or the ethnic divide particularly during elections; they should talk constructively for a change.
Let the politicians demonstrate to the Guyanese people the evidentiary nature of racial problems in this country. They have an obligation to do this, since they are seeking votes. As a voter, I want to see this demonstration in an objective way.
