Baksh challenges Charity NDC to maintain streets, drains
CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh has called on the Charity/Urasara Neighbourhood Demcoratic Council (NDC) to spend more money on the maintenance of streets and drains in Charity Housing Scheme on Essequibo Coast.
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), he disclosed that the local authority has some $12M in savings while drains in the housing area have become silted and overgrown with weed.
Baksh said the NDC must use the money to clear the drains and maintain the streets.
According to him, residents in the scheme are not paying rates and taxes yet but the NDC has a responsibility to keep all drainage networks within its boundaries in efficient condition.
Baksh said the Government has spent millions of dollars to construct streets and dig drains in the Charity Housing area and residents now living in the scheme want the drains to be desilted and the streets maintained.
