IN OBSERVANCE of Caribbean Wellness Day, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) will be hosting a Day of Sports at the Carifesta Sports Complex (GNS ground) from 13:00hrs today. The primary purpose of this event is for staff members to be engaged in interactive sessions with a view of promoting good health and fostering better relations with one another, competing in male and female football, circle tennis and softball cricket which will involve mixed teams and novelty events inclusive of athletics. MCYS Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle will welcome the gathering while the feature address will be delivered by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, with Permanent Secretary Alfred King listed to give the closing remarks.
This event was organised by ministry personnel including Ninvalle, the Administrative Secretary-General (ag) Ms Alexis Sullivan, the Director of Youth Mr. Carl Brandon and Procurement Officer, Dale France.
Guyana, along with other CARICOM countries signed the Port of Spain Declaration in 2007 and as part of this Declaration, Governments made several commitments including the commitment to participate in the Observance of Caribbean Wellness Day which is observed on the second Saturday in September.
