Burglar who changed plea sentenced to two years

GARY Khandai (no address given) was sentenced to two years imprisonment yesterday, on conviction for break and enter and larceny. The defendant first appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom he pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that, on September 7, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Sasha Budhram and stole a quantity of items valued a total of $187,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Khandai and the case was transferred to Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
But, when he made his appearance in front of Magistrate Azeez, the defendant changed his plea to guilty, admitting the burglary and the punishment was inflicted on him.
