LEROY Williams (no address given) was remanded to prison Friday on a charge which said he stole from a fellow minibus passenger.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the larceny from the person charge, to which the defendant pleaded not guilty, said, last August 24, he stole an $80,000 gold chain from Donna Fordyce. Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Williams, informing the court that he has another similar case pending elsewhere.
The prosecutor said, in the present case, Williams and the virtual complainant were in a Route 41 minibus and he was sitting next to her. But, when the bus stopped, the defendant snatched the jewel and escaped.
The prosecutor said Fordyce made a report and, subsequently, identified the defendant, who has to be back in court on October 24.
