ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday refused bail to a woman charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm to a man.
Connie Stanton, a housewife, of Lot 53 Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that, on August 26, she inflicted grievous bodily harm upon Raphael Chase.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to the grant on the ground that the defendant and virtual complainant live in the same yard and there is the likelihood of future interference.
The prosecutor said the two neighbours have an ongoing problem because the defendant is in the habit of cleaning the virtual complainant’s home when he is not present and, on the day in question, Chase found Stanton on his back step and an argument ensued.
According to the prosecutor, Stanton lashed Chase with a piece of wood, causing injuries to his left hand and the index finger, which had to be treated at a hospital.
The case will be called, again, on September 12.
