GUYANA stumbled to yet another humiliating defeat at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago as the second and final Twenty20 practice match between the two sides wrapped up at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda, yesterday.
Batting first, Guyana managed a paltry 96-8 from their allotted overs then T&T comfortably surpassed the score in 15 overs to claim the win.
Both Guyanese opening batsmen, Trevon Griffith and Shemroy Barrington were removed by Dave Mohammed without scoring, then Narsingh Deonarine followed soon after for one when he was bowled by Ravi Rampaul.
Guyana skipper Royston Crandon (16) along with fellow Berbician Assad Fuddain (8) tried to stage a recovery but their efforts proved futile when they lost their wickets to Samuel Badree and Lendl Simmons, respectively.
Badree stopped Christopher Barnwell on four while Jonathan Foo added a much welcome 21 to the score before he was out to Sherwin Ganga and Derwin Christian made eight runs before losing his wicket to Kevon Cooper.
The top-scorer for Guyana in the first match, Steven Jacobs, was left not out on 23 along with Devendra Bishoo also unbeaten on seven.
Mohammed finished with amazing figures of 2-5 from four overs while Badree supported with 2-21 from four as Rampaul, Cooper, Simmons and Sherwin Ganga grabbed one wicket each.
Trinidad, in their turn at the crease reached the target of 97 with Simmons contributing 21 and Adrian Barath top-scoring with 45. Even though William Perkins was dismissed without scoring, Daren Ganga (19) along with Barath’s performance got them to 97.
After Trinidad reached the total, the two sides played a friendly tie to complete the allotted overs as the Twin Island Republic team reached 131-6. (Kizan Brumell)
