Japanese Ambassador calls on President Jagdeo

JAPANESE Ambassador Mr Tatsuaki Iwata Tuesday paid a courtesy call on President Bharrat Jagdeo at his State House residence, where discussions centred on the finalisation of several projects, including rehabilitation works to the East Demerara Water Conservancy (EWDC).
Ambassador Iwata, in an invited comment, told the Government Information Agency (GINA), that discussions also centred on the possibility of future collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the areas of investment, agriculture and minerals.

Japan and Guyana have, over the years, shared fruitful bilateral relations. The two countries have collaborated on several projects, including the construction of a $1.6B Water Treatment Plant at Corriverton, Region 6.
The Japanese have also assisted Guyana in the fisheries, tourism, agriculture and health sectors. In the health sector, they have helped with building the New Amsterdam Hospital and (CARICOM) Secretariat.
The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) is one of the key organizations through which the cooperation programme between the two countries is being realised.      (GINA)
