TONEY Ogle, 34, of Lot 86 Sideline Dam, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara and John Blake, 26, of Lot 386 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, were remanded to prison yesterday on joint charges of robbery under arms and separate charges of discharging guns and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
The duo appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and particulars of the indictable offences for which they are jointly charged said, on September 4, being armed, they robbed Janice Bobb, at gunpoint, of one cell phone valued $39,000, property of Nigel Smith and cash and jewellery worth $167,000, belonging to her.
Ogle faced other charges of discharging a loaded firearm at Quincy Smith and Vernon Harding the same day, with intent to maim, disfigure or cause them grievous bodily harm.
Additional charges, to which he was also not required to plea, charged Ogle with unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, accusing him of having, on September 4, a .38 revolver with four .38 ammunition and two spent shells.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, objected to bail and informed the court that both accused have similar cases pending in other courts and it was while they were on bail they committed other offences.
It is the view of the prosecution that they will commit other crimes if granted pre-trial freedom, she said.
The magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s objection and transferred the cases to another court for October 21.
