RESIDENTS of Corriverton will be observing the 41st anniversary of the township this week.
They will be doing so under the theme :”Celebrating Corriverton”.
Five days of activities to mark the occasion have been planned mainly by the Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCCI) and a spokesman disclosed that they range from a blood donation drive and an inter-faith religious service, to a food fair, a street jam and a family fun day.
Outlining the programme, beginning tomorrow, President of the Chamber, Vishnu Doerga, disclosed that the first event will be the Chamber’s annual blood donation drive at the V Power Shell Service Station, from midday.
In addition to the free health checks and refreshments provided by the Berbice Blood Bank, the UCCCI is this year offering an incentive package of gasoline/kerosene/diesel provided by Shell Corriverton, packaged Karibee rice from Nand Persaud & Co, a free ATM card from Demerara Bank, and packaged flour from Saddam’s Business Enterprise.
The inter-faith service will be at the Town Hall at 17:00hrs tomorrow, and the official opening ceremony at 18:00hrs.
The street fair and road jam will be a public road affair on September 10 and the cycle race starts at 8:00hrs on September 11.
A family fun day at the Scotsburg Ground on September 11, starting at 10:00hrs will be the final event for the observances.
These events were preceded by a successful clean-up campaign in the town which began on August 28 and saw the involvement of many individuals and business places, including the Guyana Bank of Trade and Industry.
Corriverton was declared a town on September 7, 1970.
