Chris Gayle should apologise for his errant behaviour

THE appalling deficiency in the management of cricket in Guyana calls for a vigorous shake-up in personnel and the intervention by the government is most welcome.
This is Guyana and we fervently and do support the belief that we have the experience and ability to put our house in order. We cannot concede that we should be dictated to however good the intentions are in the belief outside help is needed.
In fact, the parlous state of our cricket appears to be replicated at the level of the WICB; we cannot rely on any worthwhile direction from that source.
Guyana is blessed and should be fortified in the knowledge that we can call on former successful Test players for guidance as well as cricket management. Despite the exposure of the lack of maturity and good management as encapsulated in the make-up of the current aspiring personalities seeking to take up leading positions in the management of cricket, it is accepted that we do have a core of Guyanese with requisite experience and knowledge to conduct the affairs of managing cricket in the country very successfully.
The most topical discord affecting the WICB is the issue with former captain Chris Gayle. The fundamental problem appears to be deliberately overlooked by all the several commentators and cricket officials, that is, to call on Gayle to apologise for his conduct during an electronic interview in which he castigated his employers, the WICB. What has befallen the cardinal principle of ‘no man is bigger than the game’?
This basic lapse in embracing this truism in the confrontation with former captain Brian Lara is again being overlooked. It is not too late to call for better sense to prevail in both Guyana and West Indian cricket.
For us in Guyana, the immediate need is to identify a good blend of former Test players and experienced, proven managerial cricket-minded personalities to be charged with administering the noble sport of cricket
